Your Tai Chi

When I introduce someone to Tai Chi, my goal for them is always to have their own practice, or habit of daily Tai Chi. If you only do Tai Chi in class, you will get some benefit, but nowhere near what you can with regular practice. So, initially, I suggest a goal of just 20 minutes, 5 or 6 days per week.

You must have a time and a place to enjoy your Tai Chi and it does take a bit of room, so look for a spot around 6’ x 10’. I have come to believe outdoors is best, but if inside, you may have to push the furniture back a little to find room. Try to find a time that works best for you – many love the mornings, I prefer the afternoons. Anytime is good, but I suggest consistency of time to help establish a regular habit.

And if you cannot find 20 minutes, simply do the 10, 24 or 108 moves whenever you get the urge. 10 Forms only takes a few minutes, 24 – a little over 6 minutes, and 108 – around 18 minutes. Put on some favorite music and let it flow!
